JoAnn Messenheimer

JoAnn Hopkins Messenheimer, 89, of Alliance passed away December, 28, 2012. She was born in Alliance to the late James and Flo (Smith) Hopkins. JoAnn was a member of the First Church of God where she was a Sunday School Teacher. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1940 and the Cleveland Metro Hospital in 1944 as a registered nurse. Her nursing career included private duty nursing, a cadet Army nurse during WWII, the Knox School Nurse, and 22 years as the supervisor for the Alliance Visiting Nurse. She was a member of the Knox Senior Citizens, Women of the Church of God and the Church of God Twilighters. JoAnn is preceded in death by her loving husband; Richard Messenheimer, a daughter; Nancy Messenheimer and 1 brother and 1 sister. She is survived by 1 son; James (Ann) Messenheimer of North Ridgeville, 2 daughters; Patty (James) Moreland of Worthington, Major Janice (Major Glenn Courtney) Messenheimer of Navarre and sister; Jean Shaffer of Alliance. Her six grandchildren are David (Kara) Messenheimer, John Messenheimer, Jennifer Moreland, Janice Moreland, Allison Courtney, and Andrew (Sarah) Courtney. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in JoAnn’s name to Akron Children’s Hospital or First Church of God. Services will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 11:00 am at First Church of God, 505 Lincoln Ave, Alliance with Pastor Larry Murphy officiating. Friends may call Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at First Church of God. Internment will be made at Fairmont Memorial Park, 4199 South Union Ave., Alliance.
