Leslie (Les) Howard Howell, 72 of Beach City died May 19, 2009 at his home following a brief illness. Les was born January 8, 1937 at Somerton, Ohio, the son of J. Blanche Skinner Howell of Beach City and the late Howard R. Howell. He retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad in Brewster, Ohio. Les loved auctions and was fond of collecting antiques. A source of pride was his garden in which he grew heirloom plants. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors. He was a friend to many Amish families in the area. A highlight of his summer was an annual trip to the Boar’s Head Inn in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he and Leatha would host a “crab fest” for their many friends there. In addition to his mother, Les is survived by his wife, Leatha Ross Howell of the home, 1 son, Howard Leslie Howell of Brewster, 1 grandson Matthew Howard Howell and his mother Carol, of Winfield, Ohio, 1 sister Beverly (Wayne) McFarren of Beach City and 1 brother Frances H. Howell Of Newcomerstown. Les was preceded in death by his father and his brothers, James F. Howell and Patrick R. Howell.
