Donald D. “Dan” Traynor 28 September 1953 – 27 August 2016 Dan Traynor, 62, passed away surrounded by his family at the Cleveland Clinic on early Saturday morning, 27 August 2016. He was born in Massillon on 28 September 1953, to Charles F. and Marie (Swingle) Traynor, and raised in Beach City. He was married to Lori Agnes, formerly of Beach City, and then to Delia (Alumbro) Traynor of Ilo Ilo City, Philippines. Dan graduated in 1972 from Fairless High School in Navarre, where he played football for the Falcons. The All Federal fullback received a football scholarship to the University of Akron upon graduation, but only attended for one semester before enlisting in the United States Navy. He started his career in Washington, DC as a ceremonial guardsman and platoon leader, performing duties for Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter. After 4 years of service, Dan reenlisted and was transferred to the USS Tripoli, having served several tours of duty in San Diego, CA and Subic Bay, Philippines. He later transferred to the USS Tisdale and finished his 20 years of service at NAS Memphis, in Millington, TN. He retired from the Navy as a Master-at-Arms Chief in March of 1993. Upon retirement, he moved his family back to Beach City where he was a truck driver for Robert Owen's Trucking in Navarre for over 20 years, before officially retiring earlier this year. He was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ, in Brewster, where he played the church organ when needed. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan and loved history. Dan also enjoyed building model replicas of military vehicles, such as ships, planes and tanks. In addition to his wife, Delia, Dan is survived by his children: Charles “Bo” (Brandi) Traynor of Katy, TX, Ray (Josie) Alumbro of North Canton, Eddie (Megan) Traynor of North Canton, Danielle (Steve) Perich of Plain Township, Jeff (Michelle) Traynor of Jackson Township and Jami Traynor of Kent. He has 15 grandchildren: Gabrielle, Joviet, Tristan, Anthony, Aidan, Savon, Kyoko, Brodie, Tamiko, Gwendolyn, Lois, Emeline, Holden, Simon and Baby Traynor. Brothers ,James (Anna Peters) & Dave Traynor and sisters, Pat (Don) Johnson & Stacy (John) Tillapaw. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother, Mike Traynor. Service celebrating Dan’s life will be held Saturday, Sept 3, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. in Lantzer Funeral Home, Beach City with Pastor Will Stuart officiating. Inurnment will be made at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
