David C. Traynor, 73, died from complications of COPD on January 26 in Las Cruces, NM.  A longtime resident of Jackson TWP, David had moved to Las Cruces in November 2017.  He graduated from Fairless High School in 1962 and spent most of his career in law enforcement.  Formerly Chief of Police in Lawrence Township, he began Traynor’s Police Academy more than forty years ago, operating it until 2012.  His retirement job, driving for Uber and Lyft until his move to New Mexico, provided him much pleasure both from the service he provided and the countless passengers and colleagues he met.  David served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.  He was a member of the Cypress Masonic Lodge of Strasburg. David is survived by two children, Deb McKeever (Shawn) of Alpharetta GA and David C. Traynor II of Canton.  He is also survived by his sisters Patricia Johnson (Don) of Las Cruces NM, and Stacey Tillipaw (John) of Massillon and one brother, James Traynor (Anna Peters), from Massillon.  He also leaves behind four grandchildren, several stepchildren and nieces and nephews. Hundreds of law enforcement professionals who graduated from Traynor’s Police Academy provide a lasting legacy of  David’s work.  David was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Marie Traynor and June Baker and by two brothers Michael and Daniel Traynor. Cremation took place in New Mexico.  At his request, David’s ashes will be buried in the grave site of his father in the South Lawn Cemetery in Beach City. Services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Lantzer Funeral Home, Beach City, Oh.
