Dr. Edward A Hill

Dr. Edward A. Hill was born on April 28, 1919 in Washington, D.C. to Arthur and Mignon Lucille Hill, and moved to Brewster, Ohio in 1920. He grew up in the Brewster community, played high school football, was captain of the baseball team, and served as class president for three years. Dr. Hill graduated from Brewster High School in 1937, and was the last surviving member. He attended the Ohio State University, majoring in chemistry and pre medicine, and served in the ASTP during medical school. During this time he was also a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and Phi Chi Fraternities. Graduating in 1944 from the Ohio State College of Medicine. He then went to Toledo’s Maumee Valley Hospital to complete his internship and residency. He served as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps during World Was II and received further training in anesthesia. Dr. Hill began his medical practice in Beach City Ohio in Family practice, obstetrics and anesthesia. A second office was opened in Massillon in 1950 with his partner Dr. Nevin Shuey. In 1974 both offices were combined in Jackson Twp., Ohio. Dr. Hill was a member of Stark County Medical Society, AMA, Fellow American Association and the American Board of Family Medicine. He was a Master Mason. Following retirement from office practice, Dr. Hill volunteered his time working in the free clinics: Western Stark Clinic, Canton Community Clinic and the Total Living Center Clinic in Canton. He was active for many years at the Massillon Community Hospital, Brookside Country Club, Stark County Association of Family Physicians and the Brewster Building and Loan. He was a recipient of numerous awards including the Stark County Medical Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019, Distinguished Fairless Falcon in 2010 and the 80 Years of Dedicated Service as a Master Mason 2021. He enjoyed sports, fishing of Lake Erie and the Brewster Anglers Club and painting. He was preceded by two wives, Mary Sibilla, and Jane. A brother Donald C. Hill also preceded him. He is survived by six children, Geoffrey (Connie), Sarah Emmert Hill, Edward Jr. (Karen), Betty (Bruce) Harlan, Mary Ann (Richard) Weise, Maude (Mark) Sullivan and a step-daughter Lyn Barnhart. Sixteen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Mary Jane (William) Mauger. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service followed by reception will be held at St. Timothy’s Church on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Timothy’s Church or the Sam Center in Massillon.
