Howard E. (Duke) Snyder

Howard E. (Duke) Snyder, 89 of Dundee, Oh., passed away Thurs. Jan. 14, 2010 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home, Walnut Creek following a period of declining health. He was born at Dundee, the son of the late Charles and Rosa Hauter Snyder and had been a life resident of the area. He retired in 1983 after 22 1/2 years from Warner Swasey at New Phila. Howard had been a stock car race driver (#77 Ford) for many years winning championships at Holmes Hilltop Speedway in the late 60’s. He also raced at Lakeville and Wayne County Speedways. His greatest love after retirement was working on his tractors and taking care of his farm. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. Howard was a dairy farmer in his younger years and later he raised beef cattle. He was a member of Army Navy Garrison at Beach City and a member of Zion Church, Winesburg. August 24, 1951 he married the former, Mary Hershberger of the residence. Children; Linda (James) Kirkpatrick, Delmer (Brenda) Snyder, Roger Snyder, Fred Snyder all of Dundee, Elsie (Ronald) Balder of Winfield and Kenny (Linda) Snyder of Beach City.; 1 sister, Myra Oliver of Columbus; 9 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren, Rachel, April, Katie, Esther, Leah, Melissa, Dan, Jared, Jake, Steve and Jeff; great grandchildren, Landon, Destiny, Abbygail, Step great-grandchildren, Chasse, Brett, Mytchell. Howard was preceded by grandchildren, Stephanie Butts Horn and Brian Balder, brothers, Irvin, Guy, Richard and Alvin and sister, Florence Boles. Services will be held, Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Church, Winesburg. Interment will be made in West Lawn Cemetery, Winesburg. Friends may call Sunday, January 17, 2010 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Lantzer Funeral Home, Beach City and 10 to 11 Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wayne Twp.
