Opal L. Caruthers, 82 a 55 year resident of Beach City, went to be with her Lord Sunday, January 30, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren following a period of declining health. She was born a Laurel Cliff, Oh., the daughter of the late Vernon and Esta Macumber Howell. Opal retired in 1988 as the head cook at Fairless schools, Beach City Elementary and was a 60 year member of the Dundee Church of God, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, Ladies Ministry President, Sunday School Teacher, Lay Minister and Nursing Home Minister. She was preceded by her husband George Caruthers in 1987, 1 son Levi Caruthers in 1969 and 1 sister Kathleen Poulton. Surviving are 3 daughters and sons in law, Esta (John) Winkler of New Phila, Billie (Butch) Sampsel of Navarre, Georgana Schott of Beach City; 1 brother Roy Howell of Laurel Cliff, Oh., 11 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Aa celebration of Opal’s life will be held, February 4, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at Dundee Church of God, 8027 St. Rt. 516 with Pastor Duane Wilbur officiating. Interment will be made in South Lawn Cemetery, Beach City. Friends may call Thursday, February 3 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. in Lantzer Funeral Home, Beach City. Memorials may be made to the Dundee Church of God, P.O. Box 82, Dundee, Oh 44624 to establish a memorial flower garden at the church.
